Total
newsprint shipments fell 7.6% year-over-year in June in North America, marking
an improvement on their 9.3% average decline in the first half of the year,
according to the Pulp and Paper Products Council.
Overseas
export volumes in June were only 1.7% lower than a year ago, but their average
for the first half of the year remained 8.6% higher than for the same period
last year.
Newspapers'
demand for newsprint declined 6.9% in June, an upturn from its 10.4% average
decline year-to-date, but demand from commercial printers worsened, slipping
10.4% or close to double its 5.9% first half average.
