Holmen has permanently stopped production on the 200,000 tonne/yr newsprint
machine PM 51 at its Braviken mill in central Sweden. The machine was halted on
September 14, at around 2 PM.
Holmen
announced plans to close the machine in March this year due to falling demand,
pressure on prices, high raw material costs and the strengthening of the
Swedish krona. The company settled the timing for the closure, which has led
to 168 job cuts, in May. It is not yet clear what will happen to PM 51, a
spokesperson for Holmen said.
