TSX approves Fibrek’s private placement of special warrants to Mercer:
Fibrek Inc. has just announced that the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) has determined to accept notice of Fibrek’s private placement of special warrants to Mercer International Inc. and has conditionally approved the listing of the common shares issuable on conversion of the Special Warrants. Completion of the Private Placement is subject to customary conditions.

NA Coated Paper Ships Up, Demand Down

February North American coated mechanical shipments, as reported by PPPC, was up 2.7% in February as compared to the same month last year. Demand was down -2.9%, imports declined -15.6% and the operating rate was 92%.  February coated woodfree shipments rose 1.4%, demand fell -1.2%, imports were down -11.4% and the operating rate was 87%.

Catalyst Secures Labor Agreements

Catalyst Paper reached new labour agreements with unions representing more than 1,000 paper and pulp workers at the company’s Crofton, Port Alberni and Powell River mills. The new contracts will go into effect at the expiry of the current contract on April 30, 2012.

NewPage Port Hawkesbury Gets Funding

Darrell Dexter, the Premier of Nova Scotia, is in Port Hawkesbury at this hour, making a funding announcement for the idled Port Hawkesbury Supercalendered paper mill. It includes a total of $14.8 in funding. $5.8 million of the total will be used to maintain the mill’s hot idle until a sale of the mill to Pacific West Commercial Corp. is complete.
