Once believed to be their salvation, rising raw material costs eventually forced the mill into bankruptcy. After several months of negotiations, the Watermill Group, owner of FutureMark, the nation‟s largest producer of 100 percent recycled coated paper, is set to inject success into the uncoated paper lines produced in Manistique.“It‟s nice to be here,” said Steve Silver, president of FutureMark. “This has turned out to be such a great story.”Silver said, with all of the negative information in the press lately about private equity funds being “bad”, this was an example of a success story.

Potential bidders were required to submit certain information and an executed confidentiality agreement to Catalyst Paper by June 6, 2012. The material submitted will be considered when determining the parties that will move to the next stage of the SISP process. Parties proceeding to the next stage must submit a non-binding indication of interest by 5:00 pm (PST) on July 11, 2012.

Newfoundland and Labrador's natural resources minister warned Friday that Corner Brook Pulp and Paper is in such dire shape that it could shut down without a new deal with its unionized employees. "I can tell you, based on what we know, [that] Corner Brook and Pulp is on the verge of bankruptcy," Jerome Kennedy told reporters in St. John's Friday. Kruger Inc., which owns Corner Brook Pulp and Paper, has resumed negotiations with unionized workers, who just weeks ago narrowly rejected a proposal to restructure the unfunded liability of the company's pension plans.

Prices remained under pressure due to sluggish deep sea exports to Asia and slow demand from buyers on the domestic market. Market insiders report that collection is relatively good with a number of regions reporting lower collection volumes.
